Get to Know Gary Ray

Gary Ray Howell is a member of the International Ventriloquist Society

Gary Ray Howell became a ventriloquist in 2009, and soon after became a magician as well.  Gary Ray is retired from both Federal and State government.  He is a graduate of Central State University (now University of Central Oklahoma) in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Gary Ray became interested in being a ventriloquist after he had won several public speaking contents as a member of Toastmaster International.  He was searching for books in his local library about how he could improve his speaking voice.  That’s when he came over some ventriloquist books.  He checked them out and became very interested in ventriloquism.   He later found a ventriloquist course on DVD from Steve Taylor.  Steve’s course was well put together and was most helpful for Gary Ray to learn how to be a ventriloquist.   Gary Ray studied all of Steve Taylor’s DVD’s that were relating to advance ventriloquism.  Years later, Gary Ray took more advance ventriloquist courses from Maher Studios.  These courses helped improve Gary Ray’s stage performance and writing ventriloquist material.  He also found it was helpful in improving his ventriloquist skills by attending the Vent Haven Ventriloquist ConVENTion.
Ten years prior of becoming a ventriloquist, it would have been impossible for Gary Ray to have been able to become a ventriloquist.  In fact, Gary Ray couldn’t even learn how to speak correctly.  He had Cerebellar-Vestibular (inner-ear) Dysfunction (Dyslexia/ADD with predominant speech articulation difficulties).   This was corrected by Harold N. Levinson, M.D.  of Great Neck, New York.  A person may read about Gary Ray’s account and more about this dysfunction by going to www.dyslexiaonline.com.
